Cierra Chenier is a writer and historian born and raised in New Orleans. Driven by the love for her city and enabled by cultural memory, she created NOIR 'N NOLA—a digital platform "preserving the history, culture, and soul of Black New Orleans" through topics of enslavement, freedom, and resistance. Additionally, her bylines include various digital and print publications such as Essence and the Louisiana Creole Research Association. Recognitions and features include: HBO Original Documentary Katrina Babies, VH1's Growing Up Black: New Orleans, The American Historical Association, Essence Festival 25th Anniversary Cheers to Her Brunch, Fox 8 News/WVUE Creating Black History, and Secret Los Angeles' 35 Influential Black Voices Shaping American Culture.
Through storytelling, historical analysis and interpretation, she elevates the past to form necessary connections towards her community’s present and future. Chenier's work is self-published through NOIR 'N NOLA, in addition to bylines in various digital and print publications.
